Jobless Claims Fall Toward 57-Year Low

The historic stretch of low layoffs in the U.S. economy continued last week. Applications for U.S. unemployment benefits fell by 6,000 to 194,000 in the week ended Oct. 17, according to Labor Department data released Thursday.
