Privacy Policy
SignalPop is a daily news digest. We try to know as little about you as possible. This page explains what we do collect, what happens to it, and the third parties that touch it — in plain English.
If you just visit the site
We log standard request metadata to keep the service running: IP address, user-agent, requested URL, response code, and timestamp. These logs are used for debugging, abuse mitigation, and basic traffic analysis. They live on our hosting provider (fly.io) for up to 30 days, then they're discarded.
We do not run analytics scripts that fingerprint you across the web. We do not use Google Analytics. The only first-party cookies we set are functional — theme preference, the "new since your last visit" counter.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
We collect your email address, and optionally a first name. Email delivery is handled by Resend, which receives your email address to send the newsletter on our behalf. Resend logs delivery, opens, and clicks — those signals come back to us via webhook so we can suppress bouncing addresses and measure which links got attention.
Every email contains a one-click unsubscribe link and a List-Unsubscribe header. You can also email us to be removed.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies / local storage keys:
- Theme preference — first-party local storage, set when you toggle dark/light. Never sent to our server.
- Last-visit timestamp — first-party local storage, used to compute the "new since your last visit" chip. Never sent off-device.
- Advertising cookies — when ads are shown, our ad partner (Google AdSense, see below) may set cookies in your browser. Those are governed by Google's policies.
Advertising
SignalPop displays advertising via Google AdSense. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this site or others. You can opt out of personalized advertising at google.com/settings/ads or, for participating networks, at aboutads.info/choices.
Google's use of advertising cookies is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. Third-party vendors, including Google, may use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits.
We may also display direct sponsorships labeled "Sponsored." Sponsorship placements do not set tracking cookies; they are simple links with click counters that record only the sponsor ID and timestamp.
How AI is involved
SignalPop uses LLMs (currently Anthropic, Replicate, and optionally Google Gemini and xAI Grok) to score headlines, generate the daily Brief, and detect breaking stories. These services receive only article text from our ingest pipeline. They never receive your email, IP, or any data tied to you. Provider privacy policies apply to that data once it is sent.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can contact us at hello@signal-pop.com to:
- Request a copy of any data tied to your email address.
- Have your data corrected or deleted.
- Unsubscribe and have your subscriber row hard-deleted.
- Opt out of any future processing.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority. Our lawful basis for processing newsletter subscriptions is your explicit consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), and for site logs, our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service (Art. 6(1)(f)).
If you are a California resident, the CCPA / CPRA grants you the same access, deletion, and opt-out rights described above. We do not sell personal information. Showing AdSense ads may, depending on your jurisdiction, qualify as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising; you can opt out at google.com/settings/ads.
Children
SignalPop is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has subscribed, email us and we will delete the record.
Security
Subscriber data lives in a managed Postgres database with encryption at rest and in transit. Access is limited to the site owner. Despite reasonable measures, no system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users of any material breach.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when we add new tools, change vendors, or get clearer about what we already do. The effective date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced in the newsletter.
