TGL announces first-ever trade: Shane Lowry to Boston Common from Bay Golf Club

Shane Lowry of Bay Golf Club hits out of the bunker against Atlanta Drive GC in the TGL semifinal match at SoFi Center on March 18, 2025, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. | USA TODAY Network via Reuters Co TGL continues to go where nobody has before. The simulator league started two years ago has seen all sorts of success since first getting off of the ground. Soon enough they will embark upon a third season, before that WTGL will have its inaugural voyage, and when it does there will be a familiar face in a different place. Monday morning saw TGL announce its first ever “trade” from team to team. The Bay Golf Club has officially sent Shane Lowry to Boston Common Golf. It was announced that The Bay will receive Boston Common’s fourth selection to fill its open roster spot in the season’s roster formation process, and that they will also receive one future sleection over the next three offseasons along with commercial considerations. Quite the price for Shane! Hearing about a “roster formation process” is also interesting and another point of newness from TGL. You see, the upcoming TGL season will have an expansion franchise (Motor City Golf Club which already features Brooks Koepka and Jackson Koivun) so things are already going to be different. Apparently another development is that every roster will expand from four to five players as well. One of the key changes for the 2027 season is the arrival of Motor City Golf Club, TGL’s first expansion team. Motor City joins Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club and The Bay Golf Club to give the league seven teams for the upcoming season. At the same time, every team is expanding its roster from four players to five. The final five-player rosters for each team will be announced on Tuesday, Oct. 20. Teams will still choose three players to compete in each match at SoFi Center, but the additional roster spot creates more depth and flexibility for strategic lineup decisions across the season. Obviously there is a lot of new blood set to join the TGL world, and we will find out who it is on October 20th. It is very impressive how TGL continues to add twists and turns to keep its league fresh and new. Now let’s see who those new players are and where they are located team-wise.
