Chris Ballard fired after Colts lose to Titans

(Photo by Jeffrey Brown/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) | Icon Sportswire via Getty Images On Sunday, the Indianapolis Colts lost in embarrassing fashion to the previously winless Tennessee Titans. On Monday, general manager Chris Ballard lost his job. In a statement from owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon, she outlined how the “sense of urgency has never been higher” in Indianapolis, and that the “standard” for the Colts is to compete for championships. Irsay-Gordon then indicated that a “change in leadership is necessary to meet that standard.” You can read the full statement here: Statement from Colts on Chris Ballard being out as GM: pic.twitter.com/wFJzmkpvuQ — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 19, 2026 Sunday’s loss to the Titans dropped the Colts to 2-4 on the season, two games behind first-place Jacksonville. Ballard took over in Indianapolis for the 2017 season, after starting his personnel career as a scout with the Chicago Bears, before moving to the Kansas City Chiefs first as the Director of Player Personnel, and later as the Director of Football Operations. The organization made the playoffs twice during his tenure, losing in the Divisional Round following the 2018 season, and losing in the Wild Card Round after the 2020 season. Indianapolis had a 72-82-1 regular-season record, and a 1-2 playoff record, under his leadership. Head coach Shane Steichen remains on the sideline, for now.
