NBA 2K27 Tops Madden NFL 27 In August, Shocking Absolutely Nobody

Circana has posted its August 2026 monthly report, and unsurprisingly, NBA 2K27 is once again the best-selling game for the month. That's hardly a shocker, as it was the best-selling August game in 2024 and 2025, ending a long winning streak previously held by EA's Madden NFL series of football games. While it didn't clinch the top spot, Madden NFL 27 came in second and fourth place, as the game's Kickoff Bundle version also appeared on the charts. Overall, it was a solid month for new games. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls debuted in third place, Star Wars Zero Company landed in fifth place, and Big Walk took eighth place. In total, five of the top 10 best-selling games in August were new, with Halo: Campaign Evolved, the Switch 2 port of Elden Ring, Mario Kart World, and Splatoon Raiders rounding out the list. NBA 2K27 has made it onto those charts, but the current record-holder, Resident Evil Requiem, isn't budging yet. NBA 2K27 has instead usurped the third-place position held by Crimson Desert, while other games like 007 First Light and MLB The Show 26 have held onto their respective rankings. There has been some slight movement between the top-selling games, but things remain largely the same for now. We expect that to change once the data for all games released during the bumper September and October months is analyzed, and of course, GTA 6 is expected to be a sales juggernaut when it arrives in November.
