Khalil Mack trade rumors: Landing spots for the Chargers pass rusher
We’re already a quarter into the NFL season and the NFL trade deadline looks in in about a month. Speculation is rising about players around the league moving in a trade and one such name to watch is Los Angeles Chargers veteran pass rusher Khalil Mack. The Chargers are a bitterly disappointing 0-4 and Mack, 35, is a pending free agent. It makes perfect sense. There would likely be big interest in Mack since his price tag would likely be modest. Every team is looking for more pass-rush help and Mack can still bring it. He has three sacks in four games. Here is a look at some teams that could pursue a Mack trade, presented in alphabetical order: Baltimore Ravens The Ravens could finally finalize a trade for an AFC West sack artist. All jokes aside (shoutout Maxx Crosby), this trade would reunite Mack with Ravens head coach Jesse Minter, who was his Chargers’ defensive coordinator the past two years. Pairing Mack with Trey Hendrickson would be a big boost for the Ravens in the AFC North. Chicago Bears Mack was traded to the Windy City eight years ago. This new (improved) Bears’ regime could try it again. This time, the price tag would be a lot less than a package including two first-round draft picks. The Bears are a serious contender and Mack would make them better. Also, their defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen, was the head coach when the Raiders drafted Mack in 2014. Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys are always looking to upgrade their defense and Jerry Jones would likely jump at the chance to add Mack to the mix. Their pass rush has been lacking since trading Micah Parsons last year. Los Angeles Rams GM Les Snead must be watched at all times. Do they absolutely need Mack? No. Would he help the Rams? For sure. New England Patriots Mack seems like he would be a great fit for Mike Vrabel’s team and the Patriots could use another pass rusher as they try to remain a playoff contender in the AFC. New York Giants We could see a Harbaugh brother trade. Mack is the type of player teams want to do right by and if the Chargers have to punt on this season and the Giants remain a playoff contender, Jim Harbaugh would probably feel good about sending Mack to his brother John’s team. With Brian Burns out, Mack would be a nice fit for New York. San Francisco 49ers The 49ers have been long connected to pass rushers and trading for a veteran like Mack seems like a very John Lynch-Kyle Shanahan type of thing to do. Nick Bosa is still on the shelf for them. Which team did we miss that makes sense? Drop where you think he’s going to end up in the comments below.
