Caleb Williams injury: Bears QB has Grade 2 hamstring strain, out 3-4 weeks
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - SEPTEMBER 20: Caleb Williams #18 of the Chicago Bears stands on the sideline during the national anthem prior to the game against the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field on September 20, 2026 in Chicago, Illinois. | Getty Images Update 9/27: Williams has a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks, according to ESPN. He is out for Chicago’s Monday Night game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and is slated to miss the following two games against the New York Jets and Green Bay Packers. The Bears face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 6, then play on Thursday Night Football in Week 7 against the New England Patriots — two possible options for Williams’ return. Chicago’s backup QB Tyson Bagent has been in concussion protocol. Either Bagent or Case Keenum will start for the Bears in Week 3 against the Eagles. Update Monday afternoon: Williams “avoided any major injury to his hamstring,” according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero. He hasn’t been ruled out for Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night yet. This seems like the best case scenario for the Bears. Caleb Williams looked like a potential MVP candidate during Week 1, as he led a Chicago Bears offense that hung 59 points on the board against the Carolina Panthers. But the combination of weather in Chicago — and a Brian Flores-led Minnesota Vikings defense — has made for tougher sledding in Week 2. And now the Bears quarterback could be dealing with a lower-body injury. Williams had to be helped off the field after a short run midway through the fourth quarter, and the injury brought backup quarterback Tyson Bagent into the game.
