Deaths linked to treatable emergency surgical conditions are rising in the US

Death rates associated with three common, treatable emergency general surgery conditions rose about 50% among U.S. adults ages 18 to 64 between 1999 and 2020—and rose nearly twice as fast in rural communities as in urban ones, according to a national analysis of nearly 20,000 deaths.
