GTA 6 Multiplayer Could Launch In 2027, Twitch CEO Says
Rockstar has described GTA 6 as a "single-player experience," but everyone expects the game to eventually include a multiplayer element given the enormous success of the existing GTA Online. But when could GTA 6's online multiplayer release? According to Twitch CEO Dan Clancy, fans can expect it sometime in 2027. He said this in an interview with Bloomberg (via IGN), saying Twitch spent "a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans." He said Twitch stands to benefit from GTA 6's release, too, because content creators will flock to it and stream footage on Twitch. But Clancy theorized an "even bigger" bump to Twitch numbers could come in 2027 "when they launch multiplayer." GTA 6 launches in November. To be sure, Rockstar has not announced anything at all related to multiplayer support for GTA 6. Given that Clancy said his teams had been engaged with Rockstar, his comments come across as more than just random guesswork. GTA 5 also did not launch with multiplayer support. The game released on September 17, 2013, with GTA Online debuting a few weeks later. What Clancy is suggesting is a longer period between the single-player and multiplayer releases. GTA Online has been enormously successful, bringing in lots of money from microtransactions over the years. The game has a dedicated fanbase of passionate players, which might make it challenging for Rockstar to convince people to move on to a new version. GTA 6 releases on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC edition is expected to follow.
