Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark just gave the basketball world exactly what it needed

Clark and Reese are rivals in the WNBA, but for two weeks, they are Team USA teammates chasing gold together. And while in the media, plenty of negativity has surrounded their relationship, on the court in Berlin, their chemistry has been a thing of beauty. In their first World Cup, both players have been standouts for Team USA. In the quarterfinals win over Hungary, Clark finished with 10 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds, and Reese finished with 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists. Throughout the tournament, Clark has been Team USA’s top playmaker, while Reese has been among the team’s most consistent rebounders. Both players are coming off the bench, but have been among the team’s most impactful. What’s been most impressive is their on-court connection. Clark found Reese for easy baskets multiple times on Thursday, and Reese did the same. Clark has a knack for finding Reese on the roll; Reese is able to catch tough passes from one of the best playmakers in the sport. And years of competing against each other both in college and in the WNBA are paying off. “We’ve played against each other so many times,” Reese said after the game. “So I’m sure we know each other’s game — like the back of each other’s hand. So I just easily dished it off to her. She dished it off to me. She knows my slides. I kind of got one to her today, or maybe two. On Saturday, in the semi-finals, they’ll face the winner of Thursday’s quarterfinals game between Spain and Australia. Reese and Clark will soon return to the WNBA to resume the 2026 regular season ahead of the postseason. But before that, they have the opportunity to add to their respective collection of hardware, and to do so together. “We just continue to build chemistry because we know we’re going to be USA teammates for a while,” Reese said.
