Museo del Árbol in Nueva Alborada, Paraguay
Tucked away in the small community of Puerto Itá Cajón in Nueva Alborada, the Museo del Árbol is an unusual open-air museum where the forest itself becomes part of the exhibition. Rather than walking through conventional galleries, visitors follow trails through a wooded landscape filled with sculptures, installations, symbolic trees, oversized structures, and unexpected viewpoints overlooking the Paraná River. The complex was created as a tribute to trees and the forests of Paraguay, turning the landscape into a place where environmental awareness and imagination come together. Among its most distinctive features is the “Tronco de los Lamentos,” a striking installation that serves as a symbolic reminder of the trees and forests lost to deforestation. Elsewhere, visitors encounter an “Árbol de los Deseos,” a giant chair, unusual sculptures, and the famous “Columpio del Fin del Mundo,” which offers a dramatic view of the surrounding landscape. There are also trails and areas for outdoor activities, making the experience feel less like visiting a museum and more like wandering through a strange and playful forest filled with stories and hidden surprises. The result is an eccentric blend of ecological sanctuary, outdoor art gallery, and recreational park that feels distinctly different from a traditional museum. The Museo del Árbol is a place where trees are not simply the scenery; they are the subject, the inspiration, and in many ways the main characters of the entire experience.
