Immunity for the long haul: Why some antibodies are built to last

When an infection strikes, the immune system produces antibodies to help fight it off. Some antibody responses can protect us for years, while others fade much sooner. Using a mouse model, a team of researchers led by The University of Osaka, uncovered several ways cells that produce IgG1, a subclass of IgG antibody commonly associated with long-lasting immune responses, might help establish lasting immune protection. The study is published in the journal Science Immunology.
