Co-designed counseling improves postpartum contraceptive choices, but organizational barriers remain

Becoming pregnant again soon after giving birth is associated with risks for both mother and child. A study led by Karolinska Institutet and published in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynecology & Women's Health shows that approaches and guidance developed jointly by midwives and mothers can increase the proportion of women who choose effective contraception after childbirth, but also that organizational barriers limit opportunities for equitable care.
