Private schools in the US are increasing financial aid and advertising discounts to attract students, as soaring tuition and a declining population of school-age children intensify competition. Some schools, such as Brearley and Deerfield Academy, are offering free tuition to families earning under certain income thresholds, and using sliding scales to determine tuition for higher-earning families.
