Chinatown leaders fire warning shot at Mamdani to try to sink NYC hi-rise jail plan

Eighteen Chinatown leaders are urging Mayor Zohran Mamdani to reconsider locating a new jail in their densely populated neighborhood, claiming that digging below the water table at the current site could cause the ground to sink and endanger surrounding buildings.
