Alex Albon makes it official at Williams F1

That ending is also often paired with some news on the driver transfer market, and this season is no different. Ahead of this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix, Williams announced that Alex Albon would be back for another season with the team, taking a potential big free agent off the list of available drivers for next season. “Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid,” said Albon in a statement released by the team. The news comes following Albon reaching the mark of 100 races with the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix, having joined Williams for the 2022 season. During his time with the Grove-based outfit he has delivered several key results, including a number of fifth-place finishes a year ago to finish eighth in the Drivers’ Championship standings. While Williams has struggled this season, despite focusing on the 2026 campaign and the new regulation set, both team and driver believe in the direction the team is trending. “Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words,” added Albon. “One tough year doesn’t tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things. Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is on doing whatever it takes to get us back up the grid.” “I am delighted that Alex and Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together. Alex has been a leader of this transformation project since day one and we have plenty of unfinished business that we are determined to achieve,” said team principal James Vowles. “Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years – re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.” Albon elaborated on the relationship with the team in a lengthy post on the Williams website. “Obviously, I have a great relationship with the team,” wrote the driver. “I really do enjoy working with everyone – the team at the factory, the team at the racetrack, but also the board and James himself. “We’ve clearly formed a strong relationship over the four or five years that we’ve been working together. “We’ve also hired some great people within the organisation, targeting areas we know we’ve been struggling in as a team. I think it’s great to see how honest we are about that. “Speaking with James, and him showing me the planning around the number of people who’ve joined the team in the last 12 months, but also how he’s still looking at other areas of the company – it’s clear the investment and the strategy towards powering our workforce, and hiring the best of the best, is what’s going to help us get to the top quicker.” Will this be the spark to ignite the rest of the transfer market?
